All the households are affiliated with the neighborhood units in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Active neighbourhood unit leaders can be found in all parts of the country including skyscrapers in the capital city and out-of-the-way mountain villages. They afford convenience in the residents' everyday life and devote their sincerity to making their neighbourhood units harmonious.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un had a photo session with the participants in the Third National Meeting of Active Neighbourhood Unit Leaders on March 20, 2025.
Among the participants was Kang Hye Suk who has been active as a neighbourhood unit leader in Jungsong-dong, Central District of Pyongyang for more than 10 years.
She said Kim Jong Un pressed her hands that day and it still seems to her like a dream, and continued:
"When the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un pressed my hands, I was very excited. I was beside myself with joy and shed tears so much that I felt a lump in my throat. When my lifelong desire came true, I thought it was the happiest moment in my life."
That day, Kim Jong Un highly appreciated the lofty spiritual world and unknown efforts of the neighbourhood unit leaders, saying that there are many jobs for serving the people in our society but rare is the appellation--neighbourhood unit leader--most closely and intimately linked to the people.
And he said dong and neighbourhood units constitute a cornerstone supporting our people-centred state and social system and the duties of the leaders of neighbourhood units are very important in making sure that the efforts our Party and government make for improving the people's living standards are led to the people's bright laughter.
The work of the neighbourhood unit leaders is not easy as they have to take care of the families with different jobs, ages, characters and hobbies.
As neighbourhood unit leaders are devoting themselves, however, the appellation--"neighbourhood unit leader"-- has been kept in our life most closely and intimately.
