Phellodendri cortex-Maackia amurensis gangrene ointment was highly appreciated at the advanced science and technology and goods show-2024, intellectual property development exhibition-2024 and national public health sci-tech achievements show-2024.
This ointment with Phellodendri cortex and bark of Maackia amurensis as key materials absorbs harmful secretions and protects the skin. In particular, it serves as an efficacious over-the-counter medicine for emergency and other purposes. So it drew great interest of experts and received warm feedback of visitors.
The key developer of the medicine is Song Yu Hwa, a woman in her sixties living in Wonju-dong, Sariwon, North Hwanghae Province.
In fact, medical science was not her major.
Song graduated from a normal university and worked as an announcer in her young days.
It was her mother’s request that made her turn to medicine.
Song’s mother fought at the front as a nurse during the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953). While nursing numerous wounded soldiers, she wondered if she could make medicines to help relieve their physical pains. This made her major in pharmacy after the war and spend the rest of her life in the pharmaceutical sector. She handed over her records of her decades-long painstaking experiments to Song, her eldest daughter who was unusually clever and sensible.
Song made up her mind to follow in the footsteps of her mother and taught herself medical science. She began to make an in-depth study into overdue problems she found in her mother’s thick records. Such efforts bore fruit— Phellodendri cortex-Maackia amurensis gangrene ointment.
Today she is followed by his son So Nam Hyok and daughter-in-law Pak Un Ju, both doctors at North Hwanghae Provincial Koryo Medicine Hospital.
