Pyongyang, June 2 (KCNA) -- Officials and workers in the railway transport sector of the DPRK are stepping up the modernization of railways and conducting a dynamic campaign for increasing transport to meet the transport requirements in various sectors of the national economy.
This year alone, the Ministry of Railways replaced and repaired more than 1 800 sets of turnouts and remedied vulnerable objects to ensure the stability of train service.
The Sungho and Rahung concrete sleeper factories and sleeper production units under all railway bureaus over-fulfilled their monthly production quotas by raising the operation rate of machines and equipment.
Members of the Pyongyang, Taedonggang, Nampho, Jongju and Hamhung trackmen's teams have further improved the traffic capacity of trains while repairing and reinforcing structures.
The Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Complex is directing efforts to consolidating the material and technical foundations of railways while manufacturing electric locomotives with good traction and operation performance and repairing locomotives and passenger and freight cars in a qualitative way.
The Wonsan Rolling-Stock Factory has invented and introduced a heating device for recycling axles and made over 80 freight cars.
The Pyongyang Railway Bridge Beam Factory has newly manufactured a boring jig, thus boosting the output of washers by 1.1 times.
The Sinbukchong Railway Machine Factory is pushing ahead with the production of railway machines as scheduled.
Progress was made in ensuring the promptness, accuracy and smoothness of transport organization and command as the train position tracking system was introduced into hundreds of locomotives.
Collective innovations were also made in freight transport amid the active modernizing of railways.
Each railway bureau transported hundreds of thousands of more tons of freight than planned this year. -0-
