June 19 is a historic day when the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Russian Federation demonstrated the friendship, solidarity and true comradeship and elevated bilateral relations to a new strategic level of an invincible alliance. It is also a monumental day that marked a significant milestone by adding new vitality and further impetus to the progress and development of the two countries.

President of the State Affairs of the DPRK and President of the Russian Federation had a historic meeting in Pyongyang on June 19, 2024 and signed the treaty on comprehensive and strategic partnership which will go down in the history of development of the DPRK-Russia friendship. This was a political event of great strategic importance and significance that guarantees not only the present but the bright future of the two countries with over 80-year-long tradition.

The treaty on comprehensive and strategic partnership, concluded during the DPRK-Russia Pyongyang summit, provided a legal framework for implementing the far-reaching plan formulated by the leadership of the two countries and the centuries-old desire of the two peoples to build powerful states while firmly defending the regional and global security environment in conformity with their common interests.

The treaty is totally peace-loving and defensive in nature as it aims to advance and defend the fundamental interests of the two peoples. Therefore, it has become a powerful driving force that accelerates the building of a new multipolar society free from domination, subordination, hegemony and high-handedness.

The admirable sons of the DPRK and Russia successfully concluded the joint operations to liberate Kursk which had been temporarily occupied by the neo-Nazi forces of Ukraine, in accordance with the international laws and provisions and spirit of the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership. They have thus defended the territorial sovereignty of the Russian Federation and proved the ironclad DPRK-Russia alliance at the cost of their blood.

Bilateral relations are witnessing dynamic growth and development in all sectors including politics, the economy and culture. Last year, a strategic dialogue between the two foreign ministers was held in Moscow together with the successful 11 th Meeting of the DPRK-Russia Inter-governmental Committee for Cooperation in Trade, Economy, Science and Technology in Pyongyang. In April this year, the ground-breaking ceremony for building a motor bridge linking the DPRK and Russian borders that has a great strategic significance for the development of bilateral relations was held with a large attendance and drawing great attention and expectation at home and abroad. All these events are a clear demonstration of the firm resolve of the two countries to remain faithful to the spirit and obligations of the new inter-state treaty.

It is the invariable stand of the DPRK government to continuously enhance and develop the invincible DPRK-Russia relations while extending close support and solidarity to the Russian Federation in a multifaceted and all-rounded way based on the new inter-state treaty.

Thanks to the outstanding and energetic leadership of the two top leaders, the great comradely unity and militant friendship between the two countries have been elevated to a comprehensive and strategic partnership and invincible alliance of the new era. They will demonstrate the great vitality across the world, encouraging and promoting the struggle of the progressive peoples aspiring after a just and peaceful new world.

The DPRK and Russia continue to write a new chapter of friendship and cooperation through full and unreserved support for their shared ideals and common cause. Their invincible friendship, unity and blood ties will invariably grow in strength, and the two countries will always stand side by side along this course.
