Impressive results of second-round matches of 2024-2025 DPRK Premier League

The second-round matches of the 2024-2025 DPRK Premier League are growing fiercer with the passage of time amid the expectations and interest of experts and fans.

A scrutiny of the second-round matches to date from the beginning shows that there are no strong or weak teams.

The Sonbong and Amnokgang teams competed with each other for the third time this year after the first-round matches of the 2024-2025 DPRK Premier League and the 14th People's Games.

The Amnokgang team beat the Sonbong team 1-0 and 4-2 respectively in the previous matches and the former took the fifth place in the rankings of the first-round matches and the latter was placed seventh.

So the fans were almost convinced of the victory of the Amnokgang in the current match.

However, they were mistaken.

The match which started with the Sonbong’s kick-off was a see-saw match.

The Sonbong threatened the opponent’s goal by surprise counterattacks in the 11th minute, while the Amnokgang seriously threatened the opponent’s in the 14th minute.

Then, the Sonbong scored the opening goal 10 minutes before the end of the first half.

In the second half, the Sonbong scored two goals in succession with a skilful header from a penalty kick and with an 11m penalty kick, thus defeating the Amnokgang 3-0.

The match between the Ryomyong and Jebi teams also showed that there were no weak teams.

The Ryomyong took the fourth place in the first-round matches and the fifth place in the men's football event of the 14th People's Games, and the Jebi took the eighth place in the first-round matches and the thirteenth place in the men's football event of the 14th People's Games.

Many people were convinced of the Ryomyong's victory in the match, but they were mistaken again.

In the fifth minute of the match, the Jebi shook the goal of the rival and scored another goal with the help of two-person combination in the 15th minute.

After scoring a goal in the 81th minute, the Ryomyong strived to score another goal until the extra time of the second half, but in vain. Consequently the match ended in the victory of the Jebi.

After watching the match, Pak Kum Song, a man living in Phyongchon District, Pyongyang, said, “It was difficult to predict the results of the second-round matches. The Ryomyong team scored only one goal despite seven opportunities for scoring in the whole period of the match. The ball kicked before the opponent’s goal went over the goal post, the headed ball rebounded from a post and the improperly kicked ball missed the goal. I think it is necessary for the players to enhance the ability to shoot while strengthening cooperation between them.”

Such cases in many of the second-round matches make not only players and coaches but also fans keenly feel that there are no fixed weak teams.
