Among many people who had an acquaintance with honoured disabled soldiers and have helped them with sincerity, there are employees of the Research Institute for Nutrition Care of Children under the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Hong Kum Song, deputy director of the institute, was the first to become acquainted with Son Kun Yong, a special-class honoured disabled soldier.
He visited Son’s home for the first time ten years ago.
“I had no special connection with him. As it is the original feature of our society to help and care for one another, I wanted to do something helpful for him,” recalled Hong.
At that time Hong was working as a researcher of the research institute and happened to hear about the special-class honoured disabled solider and visited him.
He assessed the health conditions of Son to take treatment measures and frequently visited his home, though he was busy with research work, for treatment.
Upon knowing the fact, all the employees of the institute joined efforts for assistance as they kept abreast of any inconvenience and scarcity in his life. They visited him on holidays and his birthdays to congratulate and encourage him.
When the daughter of the honoured disabled soldier participated in the Ninth Congress of the Korean Children’s Union, Hong Kum Song and his fellows called on his house before others to congratulate him as if the happy event was their own.
Once, Son Kun Yong told Hong not to care much for him, saying he was sorry for imposing a huge burden on many people who were busy with their work.
Then Hong said: “The bright smile of our children and the peaceful life and happiness of working people like me are attributable to the devotion of service personnel and honoured disabled soldiers. Honoured disabled soldiers have the right to be happy and have the obligation to keep the flower of the revolution in bloom.”
Thanks to the sincere assistance of researchers and other employees of the research institute, Son’s family is always animated and filled with happy laughter.
