Natural disasters can be seen in any countries of the world.

Different, however, is the stand of the ruling party of each country on those suffering from disasters.

The Workers' Party of Korea regards it as its most important work to allay the mental sufferings of people in difficulty as soon as possible.

It is proved well by the measures taken by the WPK at the time of flood that hit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The enlarged meeting of the Central Military Commission of the WPK held on August 27, 2015 discussed the damage rehabilitation in the city of Rason as an important agenda item.

In September that year, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the WPK, took the air and sea routes and crossed a pass to visit the site of damage rehabilitation in the city of Rason. That day, he said it is a natural duty of the WPK to take warm care of the people with full responsibility for their destiny.

On August 6 and 7, 2020, Kim Jong Un made his way through muddy road to call at the area of Taechong-ri, Unpha County of North Hwanghae Province and gave instructions on the rehabilitation of the damaged area.

In October 2020 he gave field guidance to the site of damage rehabilitation in the Komdok area of South Hamgyong Province. He stressed the need to speed up the damage rehabilitation project at the first stage and build new houses for 25,000 households in the area at the second stage to turn the mining villages into a mountain gorge town unprecedented in history.

Legend-like stories were told at the northwestern area swept by flood between July and December 2024.

On July 28, Kim Jong Un went to the dangerous place before anybody else and commanded in person the operation to save all the people in the flooded area to the last man.

There was no precedent that party and government heads came to a dangerous afflicted area and commanded the operation in person to rescue those who met with a calamity.

An emergency enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee was held in a train on the spot on July 29 and 30.

Prior to the meeting, Kim Jong Un looked round the flooded area on a rubber boat for about two hours before making an important decision.

The first-day sitting of the 22nd Emergency Enlarged Meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Party Central Committee was held at the conference room of the train that day. At the second-day sitting held the next day, the decision of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee "On Rapidly Repairing the Flood Damage in North Phyongan and Jagang Provinces" was adopted.

No other ruling party had ever held a meeting of its central committee in the damaged area and adopted a crucial decision for the disaster sufferers.

Kim Jong Un visited temporary tents in the afflicted area on August 8 and 9. Showing warm kindred feelings to the flood victims, he called for building a paradise on the ruins left by the nature disaster and leading a happy life there.

Making a speech before the flood victims, he said that going closer to the people to share their feelings at the time of difficulty is the mode of existence and activities inherent to our Party and that he would serve the people faithfully and always be with them.

A few days later, flood sufferers came to Pyongyang. More than 13,000 flood sufferers received special treatment at the April 25 Hostel in Pyongyang for 130 days and over 5,000 children and students were brought up and given education at the state expense.

On November 4, Kim Jong Un inspected again sites of reconstruction of flood-hit areas in North Phyongan Province. He stressed the need to complete the rehabilitation campaign at the highest level before the Party plenary meeting to be held in December and gave detailed instructions as to successfully accelerating the reconstruction project.

It is the mode of activities peculiar to the WPK to be always near the people and provide them with the greatest interests and conveniences.
