Pyongyang, July 26 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un , general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Thursday inspected a supply base of an unit of the Korean People's Army which has made a great achievement in implementing the Party's policy on encouraging paddy-field fish breeding to learn about its conditions.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un was accompanied by leading officials of the Party, government and armed forces organs, including members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, and chief secretaries of provincial Party committees.

The supply base produced more than 70 tons of catfish per hectare while sharply lowering unit feed and increasing weight ratio than industrial catfish breeding methods by intensifying the research true to the policy of the Party on encouraging the paddy-field fish breeding. It also harvested 10-odd tons of grain of rice per hectare on low-yielding fields, not using any fertilizer and agricultural chemicals.

Watching with satisfaction the paddy fields teeming with catfishes, Kim Jong Un highly appreciated that though the unit is not a special catfish farm, it started fish breeding with some employees and their family members and proved the economic effectiveness of paddy-field fish breeding and scientific and technological guarantee for it over a brief span of just three years by combing the scientific research with production practice.

Learning in detail about the method of paddy-field catfish farming created by the unit and its farming experience, he said that it is necessary to properly select a right place in consideration of water resources, water quality conditions, pollution source of the surrounding area, irrigation and drainage conditions and soil characteristics in order to introduce paddy-field fish breeding, adding that it is most important to remodel paddy fields such as making a ditch and pool so as to create favorable conditions for the growth of fish.

Explaining the advantage of the green cultivation and fish farming comprehensive system, which becomes a world trend, to the cadres accompanying him, he stressed the need to establish a scientific theory on the Korean-style paddy-field fish breeding, not confining to introduce the experience of individual units, and standardize it in order to make a leap forward in this field.

An official of the unit said that it has built a pedigree farm and sent two millions of young catfishes produced by itself to various units of the army and society from this year and harvested 7 tons of earlier wheat and 30 tons of garlic per hectare. The official also said that it is expected to produce 10-12 tons of grains of rice per hectare, 50-60 tons of grains of rice in five hectares of paddy fields and 60-70 tons of catfishes per hectare, 300-350 tons of catfishes in five hectares of paddy fields. Being informed by the official, Kim Jong Un encouraged the unit, saying that it set a practical example in the introduction of organic farming through fish breeding, which is prioritized by the WPK.

He said that the officials of the base who accept the Party's policies as truth and faith and bring about substantial successes in improving the soldiers' and people's living standard are genuine revolutionaries and patriots, and gave special thanks to the unit.

He instructed to organize with much effort a demonstration on the introduction of the Korean-style green cultivation and fish farming method established by the officials of the unit, saying that it is important to make the leading officials at all levels possess rich knowledge of paddy-field fish breeding. -0-
