Suicide prevails in Western society.
According to statistics, the annual number of suicides in Germany is about 10 000, more than the number of deaths due to accidents and crimes.
A suicide happens every 51 minutes and a suicide attempt every five minutes in the country.
Men and women accounted for 72.6 and 27.4 percent of suicides respectively in 2023 and most of them were in their fifties and above.
Articles aimed at instigating suicide rapidly spread in the UK.
A charity organization’s survey of major SNSs used in the country found that articles inciting children under 16 to kill themselves were flooding into them.
It said that over 44-55 percent of recommended popular videos were those which might entail suicide.
Japan has not rid itself of the stigma as a "kingdom of suicide".
The Japanese Ministry of Welfare and Labour noted that last year the number of student suicides reached 527, which is larger than that in 2022, a record high previously.
Last year, the suicides, including students, across Japan numbered 20 268 and their suicide notes read, “Body and mind torn to pieces!”, “It is really agonizing”, “I don’t want to live any longer” and so on.
A "suicide site" came into being on the Internet of Japan, in which articles to find persons who can commit suicide together are posted freely, and its subscribers are increasing day by day.
Tourist resorts have turned into "suicide resorts" and "suicide woods" have come into being in different parts of the country.
In the Western world, people opt for suicide because they have no dream and hope for the future and no attachment to their life.
People give up their life in despair and disappointment owing to all sorts of difficulties in living such as unemployment, dismissal, dropping out of school due to exorbitant school expenses and too expensive doctor’s fees, social rejection and domestic anxiety and maltreatment.
Such tragic reality represents the tendencies and incurable ills of Western society.
