Today there exist many parties on the globe. Every party advocates politics for the people in its own way. But only the Workers' Party of Korea has always emerged victorious without any failure or twists and turns, enjoying support and trust of the people.

Then what is its secret?

The answer is given by the 80-year-long history of the WPK.

WPK Founded Shortly after Liberation

The Korean people put an end to the harsh colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists spanning more than 40 years under the wise guidance of the great leader Kim Il Sung and accomplished the historic cause of national liberation on August 15, 1945.

After the liberation of the country, it was necessary to put forward the line of nation building to be unanimously sympathized with and followed by the people and implement it. For the purpose, it was urgent to found a party, a vanguard of the revolution and a powerful political leadership organization.

In view of such lawful requirements of the Korean revolution, Kim Il Sung made preparations for party founding before anything else after liberation.

He set forth the policy on founding a party with the anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters tempered and trained in the anti-Japanese armed struggle as the core and involving communists active at home and abroad.

And he said that the party should be founded in the way of forming party organizations first in the regions and on this basis, establishing the central leadership body of the party.

Under his energetic leadership, the WPK was founded in less than two months after the liberation of the country.

The WPK proclaimed its founding all over the world on October 10, 1945.

Regarding it as his motto to believe in the people as in heaven, Kim Il Sung saw that the emblem of the WPK represented the popular character of the Party.

As a result, the working class was represented by a hammer, the peasants by a sickle and the intellectuals by a writing brush.

The founding of the WPK was a declaration heralding the provision of a powerful political weapon for building a country in which the people are the masters of everything and everything serves them.

Motherly Party Serving the People

The great leader Kim Jong Il regarded it as his lifelong mission to carry forward and accomplish the cause of Kim Il Sung and led the WPK to serve the people.

He started his work at the Central Committee of the WPK, the supreme general staff of the Korean revolution, on June 19, 1964.

From the initial period of his work at the Party Central Committee, he led the WPK to fulfil its role as a genuine guide and protector of the people bearing responsibility for their destiny and taking good care of them just like the mother warmly looking after her children with utmost love.

He made public famous works including "On the Fundamentals of Revolutionary Party Building" to clarify the historic mission of the WPK which should lead the people, taking responsibility for their destiny, and provide them with an independent and creative life. And he made the WPK conduct all its activities thoroughly with love for the people and pay primary attention to defending their interests.

One day, he called at the construction site of a power station braving a howling snowstorm and said what should be given top priority before its construction was to fully provide the evacuees with living conditions, and continued:

We should bear in mind that the living of the evacuees is more important than tens of thousand kilowatts of electricity and solve the problem of living of the residents in the district to be inundated in practice, not in words. It is the policy of the Workers' Party and its mass line that the Party and the country take care of the people's life.

Thanks to the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il, a revolutionary method of work and a popular style of work were established throughout the Party to thoroughly defend and realize the demand and interests of the people.

Though the tasks were different at every stage of the development of the revolution, the stand and posture of the WPK guided by the idea of believing in the people as in heaven remained unchanged.

Whenever it set the course of advance and whenever it faced grave trials, the WPK called on the people first, listened to their opinions, though simple, and reflected their will and demand in its policies in the whole period of leading the revolution.

The appellation of motherly Party is not a word formulated by a thinker or a politician. It is the name peculiar to the WPK given by the Korean people of their own accord.

People-First Principle

The idea and cause pioneered and led by the great leaders Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il are now firmly carried forward by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, clarified that the great Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, the guiding idea of our Party, is, in essence, the people-first principle and making selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the people is the mode of its existence.

The people-first principle is a political idea of regarding the masses of the people as the masters of the revolution and construction, relying on them and making selfless, devoted efforts for their good.

It is the idea of Kim Jong Un that whatever precious and powerful beings there may be, none of them is more precious and powerful than the people.

He energetically led the whole Party to make selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the people.

Under his wise leadership, the WPK could work a miracle of defusing in the shortest time the public health crisis unprecedented in history which can be called a great turmoil since the founding of the country and building cradles of happiness in the areas swept by disasters like mushrooms after rain.

Thanks to his firm will to pluck a star from the sky if the people wish, the WPK is continuously waging the struggle to provide the people with better living conditions.

The WPK has put forward the policies of struggle in detail for bringing about changes in the improvement of the people's living in a multi-stage, offensive and three-dimensional way in line with the new era of overall national prosperity, showing more clearly the feature and character of the Party devoting itself to the people.

The housing construction is going on in a bold way in the rural villages across the country as well as in the capital city and huge construction projects are accelerated in real earnest to bring about the overall regional rejuvenation. This shows the firm will of the WPK to realize the cherished desire of the people on the highest level and at the earliest possible date in the spirit of making selfless, devoted efforts for their good.

In the capitalist society, the wealth created with the laborious efforts of the working masses is funnelled into a tiny handful of power holders and the rich and used by the privileged classes for their pleasure. But in our society, where the masses of the people are the masters of everything and everything serves them, modern houses built by the Party and state with much effort are provided to ordinary working people free of charge, new school uniforms, things, bags and shoes supplied to the schoolchildren and wonderful entities of civilization contributed to the cultural and emotional life of the people.

The genuine feature of the WPK will be expressed in the appearance of the country that is transformed under its leadership and in the looks of the people who always smile happily.

The people-first principle of our Party which regards the masses of the people as the God, faithfully serves them by devoting its all, firmly believes in them as in itself and enlists their inexhaustible strength, and its genuine leadership art of always going deep among the people, resolving their concern, sharing weal and woe with them, groping for the road of victory and prosperity and leading them are the political mode of the WPK that no other parties and politicians in the world can imitate.

The WPK is the Party that exists for the people, serves the people and devotes itself and struggles for the people.

The 80-year-long history of the WPK shows that it could achieve only victory and glory, writing the longest history as a socialist ruling party, entirely because it struck deep root in the minds of the people and made devoted service for them and that as the people are eternal, so the cause of the WPK which regards the people as the God and advances with the trust in and love for them will be invincible forever.
