The Munsu area of Pyongyang boasts the Ryugyong Dental Hospital, as well as the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, the Okryu Children’s Hospital and the Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital.

On October 13 2013, the hospital was inaugurated to start medical service for the people.

The hospital, equipped with modern medical facilities, has so far treated more than 603 000 patients since its inauguration.

Lots of heroes, war veterans and honoured disabled soldiers, who had made great achievements for the country, got excellent medical treatment at the hospital.

Until now, medical workers of the hospital have not only given treatment to outpatients but also provided outreach medical services at over 120 units, thus examining the health of over 50 000 persons and treating more than 64 000 patients.

“The building of an excellent hospital does not just mean good treatment. What is important is to improve the technical knowledge and skills of medical workers,” said Hyon Sun Jong, doctor of the hospital.

In two years after its inauguration, the hospital introduced oral implant and succeeded in using micro-implant for orthodontic treatment. And it has so far introduced dozens of other advanced techniques and methods for dental treatment, including a conservative treatment method and a sedative treatment method for the dental treatment of children.

In the course of this, the hospital’s academic degree and title holders have increased in number nearly seven times and won the top and first places at exhibitions and shows. In particular, they established a treatment method of using all-ceramic dental prostheses, which makes it possible to save labour and time for making dental prostheses by over ten times and ensures very high quality of dental prostheses, for the first time in the country and applied it to treatment.

The hospital was the first in the public health sector to win the title of model informatization unit by developing and introducing a hospital information management system and realizing the informatization of its administrative affairs and treatment.

In keeping with the accelerated construction of modern medical service facilities across the country in the new era of regional rejuvenation, the hospital puts a big effort into teaching regional medical workers advanced treatment methods and experience.

After looking round the hospital, foreigners and overseas Koreans said that “it is a flawless hospital” and “its atmosphere is what we have to learn from”. And patients who got medical treatment at the hospital lavished praise on it and its doctors, saying, “The hospital and its doctors bring happiness.”

Kim Kyong Jin, a staffer of the hospital, said that the hospital is held in affection by the people thanks to the loving care of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un who showed deep concern for and gave instructions on its construction, medical service and management and that they will continue to strive to ensure that the people thoroughly feel the advantages of the socialist public health system.
