International efforts are being intensified to solve food problem.

The 80th Session of the UN General Assembly discussed “Poverty elimination and other development issues” and “Agricultural development, food security and nutrition”.

At the meeting representatives of developing countries including China, Vietnam, Iraq and Nepal asserted that to eradicate poverty and put an end to hunger is a desire common to humankind and a prerequisite for sustainable development. Noting that 808 million people have faced severe starvation worldwide this year, they referred to the need for developing countries to strengthen international cooperation and solidarity and establish a stable, all-embracing and mutually beneficial world food trade order and financial system in order to resolve the crisis.

Representatives of other countries, including Russia, Belarus, Iran, Venezuela and Nicaragua, said that unilateral coercive measures and protectionism hinder the attainment of the sustainable development goals by 2030, including poverty elimination, hunger termination, food security, nutrition improvement and sustainable development of agriculture, calling for putting an end to such illegal measures.

A world food forum on the theme of “Hand in hand for better food and better future” took place at the building of FAO.

It was divided into “Hand in hand” investment forum, youth forum and science and innovation forum.

The youth forum discussed the issue for young people to play a leading role in reforming the agricultural and food system, the “Hand in hand” forum considered more than 100 investment proposals and intentions for cooperation between 20-odd countries and five regions in a comprehensive way and the science and innovation forum mainly talked about the issues of digital farming and AI technology, health foods and development of the fishing industry.

Different countries have taken decisive measures for overcoming the food crisis.

The Brazilian President in a speech at a FAO event emphasized that the name of his country has been deleted from a “world hunger map”, adding that all countries should include the poor in their state budgets and that only when the goal of eradicating hunger turns into a national policy can the problem of hunger and poverty be solved.

The Indonesian Minister of Agriculture said that if everything goes well, Indonesia will not have to import rice anymore in the coming two to three months and that the attainment of the goal will be possible if there is no severe climatic change. According to information available, it is anticipated that the rice output of Indonesia will reach 33.1 million tons by November this year and 34 million tons by the end of the year, or about 4 million tons of more rice than last year.

The Indonesian government plans to make a leap forward to a sustainable agricultural power while developing the fields of other crops and livestock farming in order after beefing up food security.
