Two Different Realities on Campus

A recent Tokyo Shimbun editorial on spiking violence and maltreatment on campus is drawing the attention of the world people. Violence and maltreatment reported in primary, middle and high schools all across Japan in 2024 hit a record high of more than 128,800 and 769,000 cases respectively. They were confirmed in 80 per cent of all schools in Japan. The number of absent students has increased for 12 consecutive years to over 353,970 – 3.9% of the total number of students.

More ridiculous is what the article recommends – actions need to be taken not by the state or community, but the school authorities and teaching staff. After all, it is the admission that violence and maltreatment on campus are incurable social ills.

However, thanks to the free compulsory 12-year education system in the DPRK, all the schoolchildren are growing up into reliable pillars of the country possessed of noble morals, profound knowledge and strong physique, giving full play to their potential in standardized schools, marvelous palaces and holiday camps for schoolchildren.

Thanks to the great care of the State and society, our schools provide campus for future generation, where teachers are committed to their students while students cultivate noble view of life and patriotism to respect their teachers and devote themselves to the society, the collectives and to their comrades. The schools are regarded as ideal places where anyone can entrust their children’s education.

Thanks to the benevolent love of the great father who regards it as his immovable creed of life to pluck even a star from the sky, if it’s for posterity, the happy smile will never fade away from the faces of our children and the sound of school bells will resonate far and wide in all schools across the country promising the prosperous future of the country.
