Doctor is a job earning the people's respect because he or she relieves them of their pain and recovers their health.

Kim Ryo Sun, doctor of the Neurological Department of the Pothonggang District Hospital, has devoted her sincerity to the residents for the past 20-odd years.

When she was assigned to the Neurological Department of the Pothonggang District Hospital after graduating from then Pyongyang Surgical College in 2003, Kim Ryo Sun made a resolve to work hard and be a noted doctor respected by people.

But the reality was beyond her imagination.

Kim Ryo Sun had thought that doctor would be wearing white overalls and treat the patients coming to the hospital. Unlike her imagination, however, she had to call on emergency cases at any time, which was beyond her capacity.

She was mentally and physically tired as she made the rounds of the district all day long to call on patients from early morning till late at night.

After she became the mother who should look after a family, she sometimes had to go back home deep at night. Seeing her daughter sleeping alone at that time, she felt sorry for her. As it cost her a great deal of trouble, she even had the idea of giving up the job as doctor at times.

When the residents completely recovered after treatment expressed thanks to her, however, she is said to have felt the pride of being a doctor.

In April 2022 she came to know that an old war veteran living in Neighbourhood Unit No. 25 of Taebo-dong could not move her body because of the worsened wound she got at the time of war. At that time, doctors of a clinic were at a loss what to do and the old woman herself was not having meals properly, with no hope.

Kim Ryo Sun got to treating the old woman without hesitation.

She called on the old woman every day to treat her with acupuncture and moxibustion. She helped the old woman to walk and applied manual technique therapy to her after exercise.

She only thought of curing the war veteran  the state holds up so much. Thanks to her sincerity, the old woman came to walk in 102 days after the start of the treatment and took part in the Eighth National Conference of War Veterans.

Like this, Kim Ryo Sun is said to have completely cured nearly 1,500 patients while paying sick calls on them for over 20 years.

In those days, she acquired high medical skills of making a quick and correct diagnosis and treatment of different urgent diseases as well as clinical experience. She also made public a number of papers including the one titled "Experience in the Treatment of Lumbosacral Neuromyositis Combined with Pharmacotherapy and Low Frequency Therapy".

Today, residents in the district love and respect Kim Ryo Sun, regarding her as one of their families and as their own flesh and blood.

They express their love and respect for her.

Whenever they express thanks to her, Kim Ryo Sun feels a great pride of being a doctor and engineer of human life. She said:

"In our beautiful society full of virtues and affection, the love of health workers for humans is that for the people and their devotion to them is just the sincerity and patriotism, I think. Many people, who had been recovered, send letters of thanks to me. I think the letters are a decoration and commendation our people give to the health workers. I will devote greater sincerity to the treatment of patients and continue to take the proud road of loyalty and patriotism as a health worker true to the public health policy of the Workers' Party of Korea which is most advantageous in the world."

Kim Ryo Sun is devoting her warm sincerity to medical services, always aware that her call on patients is an honourable way of  giving benefits of the socialist health system to the people.
