In December last year, when the inauguration ceremony of the Sinpho City Offshore Farm in South Hamgyong Province was held, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un unveiled a plan to build another modern offshore farm in Ragwon County.

The Eleventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea in late December that year adopted a decision on building the farm in 2025.

At the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ragwon County Offshore Farm on February 14, 2025, Kim Jong Un said that as the place safely enclosed by land on three sides is the best of the ideal sites for an offshore farm and that he would make sure a modern offshore farm was built in the area with dwelling houses perfectly built as suited to the features of the coastal area so that he could present to the county the most beautiful fishermen’s village in the world. He added that it would be a good idea to call the village Ragwonpho in the future.

During his visit to the construction site in July he said that many things changed beyond recognition in just some months since the construction of the farm started in February and that the project directly planned and pushed forward by the Party Central Committee was an innovative field of creation to reliably guarantee the effective rejuvenation and long-term development of more than 60 coastal cities and counties across the country. And he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the important project most likely to give a fresh impetus to the implementation of the regional development policy that was gaining greater momentum was being perfectly pushed forward.

On August 26, he went round the completed offshore farm and the fascinating residential area of the fishermen’s village. Feasting his eyes on the panoramic view of Ragwonpho as beautiful as a picture, he said with pleasure that the project which had been planned since the previous year to build a fishing base more characteristic than the Sinpho City Offshore Farm was successfully brought to completion, making it possible to present the fishing village in the most beautiful port in the world to the people of Ragwon County.

On August 30 a splendid ceremony was held on the coast of the East Sea of Korea to inaugurate the stylish seafood production base equipped with modern production facilities and processing lines and the fishermen’s village with hundreds of modern houses, in harmony with the surrounding natural scenery along the undulating mountain landform and most unique in terms of convenience, aesthetic beauty and formative art.

This place is affectionately called “Ragwonpho” by the Korean people.
