The great leader Kim Jong Il strengthened and developed the Workers' Party of Korea into a genuine motherly party that formed an integral whole with the masses of the people and serves them.

He formulated the revolution as the affection for and trust in the people and made painstaking efforts to build our Party as a genuine motherly party which regards the people as the God and takes care of their destiny on its responsibility to the end.

His absolute trust in and ardent love for the people were told on the road of his field guidance tour and reflected in the popular policies of the Party and the state.

Reading the data that the quality of foodstuffs can be improved markedly if a new process is introduced into the foodstuff industry, he convened a consultative meeting of officials concerned one day in April 1979.

He told the officials that he was going to establish the new process at a foodstuff-processing factory as soon as possible in order to supply the people, the children in particular, with larger quantities of tasty and nutritive foodstuffs, and asked their opinions.

In fact, huge construction projects were underway in different sectors and units of the national economy in those days. A lot of manpower, materials and funds were needed to start a new project.

An official silently stood up and informed him of the acute shortage of funds before suggesting that the project be put off.

Kim Jong Il said to the officials: Of course, we must make a calculation, but not all the time. If we only pay attention to calculated figures, we can do nothing for the people. Think of your mothers. If they had no cloth, they unsewed even their only suit to make clothes of their children. If they had no rice, they cut and sold their tresses to feed their children. Only when we have such selfless love, can we do even one more thing for the people.

It was the idea on Party building and unshakable political creed of Kim Jong Il that the Party will have an infinite leadership ability when it works hard for the people and makes selfless, devoted efforts for their good.

One day in January 1990, Kim Jong Il said to officials that the masses of the people are to all intents and purposes the driving force of the revolution and construction and have inexhaustible strength and wisdom and that ours is the party serving the people and all its lines and policies are adopted for the people.

He added that the Party officials should make it their habit to always go among the masses, learn from them and share weal and woe with them and regard it as their biggest honour and pride to serve the people.

That day he stressed that the People's Army has the slogan "We serve the country!" and our Party officials should uphold the slogan "We serve the people!".

Thanks to the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il, the WPK could give top and absolute priority to the people's interest, regarding the masses of the people as the root of its life and the source of its inexhaustible strength and in those days, the Korean people believed and followed the Party as the beacon of their destiny and as their mother.
