2025 is a significant year when the major industrial sectors of the national economy carried out their highly-set production plans in a responsible manner through vigorous campaign for increased production and economization and thus achieved the objectives of economic development and fulfilled the five-year plan for national economic development.

This year officials and workers in the fields of key industries, the lifeline of the independent economy, powerfully led the new upsurge in the overall economy by fully displaying self-sustenance.

At the Head of Key Industries

In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the metallurgical and chemical industries are the twin pillars supporting the national economy.

In 2025, successes were achieved in the field of metallurgical industry, the main link in the whole chain of readjusting and reinforcing the overall national economy and strengthening the independent foundations of the national economy. Entities of making the metallurgical industry Juche-oriented and modern were erected one after another and the iron and steel production plan was overfulfilled.

The officials and workers of Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, a leading iron production base, built a new refractory adhesive binder production process and introduced a new technology of raising the oxygen purity, thus laying a foundation for increasing the iron and steel production and making a fresh leap forward in the future.

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex built a technical process of improving the quality of steel by using active quicklime, one of the key national projects for scientific and technological development, according to its actual conditions, making it possible to further raise the quality of iron and steel and increase their productivity while economizing in manpower, electricity and fuel.

The Chollima Steel Complex raised the thermal efficiency of heating furnaces and the rolling yield, and the Musan Mining Complex boosted the concentrated iron ore production by blasting of 2.5 million cubic metres of earth.

In 2025, the chemical industry sector also made a great progress in the establishment of technical processes and the expansion of production capacity for strengthening the independence and modernity, opening a new avenue of the Juche-oriented chemical industry.

The officials and workers of the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, a large chemical industry base, established the melamine resin production process based on domestic resources and technology and thus consolidated the independent foundations of the chemical industry.

Those of the Chongjin Chemical Fibre Mill established a new multipurpose electroinsulating paper production process in active cooperation with scientists, putting an end to the word of import itself.

A new power saving method was invented and introduced at the Namhung Youth Chemical Complex and the remodelling project persistently promoted at the Sinuiju Chemical Fibre Mill. Other chemical factories across the country successfully carried out the tasks for readjustment and reinforcement.

The above-said meaningful successes proved a rapid progress in the metallurgical industry and a sure leap forward in the chemical industry, powerfully leading the development of the independent economy.

Precious Successes Optimistic about Sustainable Development of National Economy

The development of not only key industries such as metallurgical and chemical industries but all other sectors of the national economy including light industry and agriculture unexceptionally presupposes the supply of machinery and equipment.

In 2025, the struggle was further intensified in the machine-building industry sector to attain a high goal of modernization while producing enough machinery and equipment needed in different sectors of the national economy.

The Ryongsong Machine Complex is promoting its first-stage remodelling project at the final stage while producing ordered equipment on a high level, localizing many precision processing equipment and manufacturing modern robots and unmanned transport trucks.

The Taean Heavy Machine Complex improved the quality of products by establishing a new automatic heat treatment control system and integrated control system in the material production process with its own strength and technology.

The Ragwon General Machine Enterprise renewed the hydraulic system and circuit and further raised the quality of various hydraulic components while satisfactorily solving the technical problems arising in the manufacture of different kinds of spare parts, providing a guarantee for improving the performance of hydraulic excavator.

The workers of the Hamhung Mounted and Trailed Farm Implements Factory concluded the remodelling project on a high level while assembling and installing all sorts of machinery and equipment such as vertical machine centre, crank press and automatic guided vehicle in a responsible way in close contact with scientists and technicians, laying firm material and technical foundations for further increasing the proportion of the farm work done by machines.

Other units including the Mangyongdae and Kusong machine tool factories pushed forward with the readjustment and reinforcement and the current production simultaneously to wind up the production of equipment needed for the operation of the new regional-industry factories while strengthening the existing production foundations.

The remarkable achievements at the machine-building industry bases of the country in 2025 convince the people of the phase of development of the national economy making a simultaneous and balanced progress firmly based on the development of the machine-building industry.

Power Bases Inject Vigour into Overall Economy

Electricity is a major source of power of the independent economy and it is a prerequisite for accelerating the economic construction and improving the people's standard of living to increase the production of electricity.

In 2025, the construction of large-scale power bases, small- and medium-sized power stations and photovoltaic power plants was carried on vigorously and the first-stage project of the Tanchon Power Station, the largest one in the history of hydroelectric power generation of the DPRK, is nearing completion.

Jagang Province built Usi Power Station No. 3 with its own efforts on the basis of the experience gained in building power stations in the past. Kangwon Province rich in hydraulic resources created new generating capacity without letup according to its actual conditions, with the result that the Hoeyang Army-People Power Station was inaugurated.

Pyongyang, South Hamgyong Province and South Phyongan Province built photovoltaic power plants with great economic profits and good prospect such as grid-connected one, thus making a contribution to increasing the power production of the country.

Notable successes were made in the work for increasing the thermal power generation to the maximum in 2025.

The Sunchon Thermal Power Station finished the installation of more superheaters to reuse the heat of waste gas from boiler No. 2 and improved the stability of the fire chamber, thus making it possible to further expand the power production capacity while saving a lot of materials and manpower.

The officials and workers of the East Pyongyang Thermal Power Station further raised the operation level of the heat production and dedusting systems by successively disassembling and assembling huge and complicated devices in a little over two months.

The Sonbong Thermal Power Station established the computer integrated manufacture system to ensure the correctness of overall production processes and the reliability of their operation. The Pukchang Thermal Power Complex overhauled the boilers in a qualitative way. Many other units in the thermal power generation sector provided a guarantee to normalize the production of electricity on a high level.

The successes made in the field of electric power industry maintaining the power production in a stable way inject a great vigour into the overall economy.

The year 2025 witnessed the accelerated speed of advance and redoubled self-sustenance through remarkable changes and transformation.
