Different countries are intensifying efforts to jointly cope with the arbitrariness and military pressure of the West.

In mid-January a joint maritime exercise “Will for Peace 2026” was conducted in South Africa with the participation of the armed forces of the BRICS member states, including Russia, China and South Africa.

The joint exercise, conducted on the theme of “Joint action for ensuring safety of important navigation and marine economic activities”, was an endeavour of BRICS member states to make practical preparations for jointly defending the security of maritime trade routes by focusing on nontraditional security field, to jointly confront all sorts of unstable challenges and to promote cooperation in the security field.

Now the Western forces are conducting military drills to destroy global peace and security in open violation of international law and the fundamental principles of international relations, while stubbornly persisting in the Cold War way of thinking. A clear example is illustrated by the military action of NATO which is being used as a military tool for realizing the US’ ambition for hegemony.

But the joint exercises of the BRICS member states have neither targeted any third party nor set any imaginary enemy, but maintained the distinct multilateral nature and practical direction.

Their recent joint exercise also served as a diplomatic platform for promoting exchanges and mutual confidence, not any show of military power.

It showed that anti-imperialist developing countries can accumulate experience in security cooperation through independent negotiations and collaboration.

It also highlighted the point that the mode of collaboration based on equal status, focusing on common demands and prioritizing substantial success can be a practical example of multilateralism.

Meanwhile, the permanent representative of Angola, addressing the 51st regular meeting of the committee of permanent representatives of the African Union held in Ethiopia in mid-January, called for strengthening the sustainable unity and alliance among the AU member nations. He said that only when the one voice of unity respecting diversity is distinctively and firmly raised in the present world where the situation is rapidly changing and tension is escalating, can the status and role of Africa be consolidated in the international arena. He added that all the African countries should contribute to forging a partnership aspiring after global stability, integration and co-prosperity and seeking a common solution based on multilateralism.
