In a recent interview with one of Russian media, Medvedev, vice-chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, asserted that nuclear non-proliferation is feasible only when nuclear states are politically committed to it.
The prevailing global unrest, confrontation and destruction of the world order make the countries regard nuclear possession as the best option for defending national sovereignty and interests, he said, and added that the number of nuclear states is forecast to increase.
Noting that such increase might paradoxically strengthen the international stability, he added that there might not have existed the former Soviet Union or the Russian Federation of today but for the actual possession of nukes.
Some Western senior politicians commented that the world is ruled by “law of might”, not by “might of law” and this cruel reality is driving more and more countries towards obsession for nuclear possession.
