In the course of successfully implementing the programme set forth at the 8 th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), remarkable successes were achieved. Such successes are amplifying the phase of radical turn in the overall national prosperity, demonstrating the validity and vitality of the ideas and lines set forth by the WPK.

Over the past five years, the overall national economy has been definitely put onto the track of growth and development. The major fields of socialist construction reverberated with dynamic sounds of creation and innovation. Remarkable successes were made in pepping up the economy and enhancing the people’s living standard.

In major industry sectors which play key roles in strengthening the self-supporting foundation of the national economy and in improving people’s livelihoods, notably metal and chemistry industry sectors, localization and modernization projects were completed one after another and establishment of self-reliant and modern technical procedures as well as expansion of production capacities were carried out in a planned way. A meaningful progress was made in Juche-based fertilizer production and the leading machine-building plants accomplished the highly-set modernization goals.

In all sectors of national economy including electricity and coal-mining, which serve as stimulants to economic development, valuable outcomes guaranteeing sustainable development of the national economy and the firm upward trend were achieved. Socialist construction was carried out on a massive scale across the country.

Also in the light industry sector, many modern consumer goods-production plants which contribute to improving the people’s livelihood were newly built, and many plants were renovated and modernized. Such outcomes redoubled our people’s confidence and enthusiasm that we can create civilization, ideals and happy lives of our own style for sure with our own resources and technology.

Being endowed with affection for the people, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un is energetically leading the struggle for the development of national economy. Thanks to his devoted efforts, our people could further cement the self-supporting economic foundation, open up a way forward of the next stage towards a new victory and enter the historic course of overall development.

As long as we have the wise leadership of the WPK unyieldingly implementing the goals once set and the unmatchable spirit, creativity and high patriotic enthusiasm of our people, we will definitely build on this land a socialist power that thrives by dint of self-reliance and by own efforts.
