In January, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights voiced concern over worsening inhuman treatment of immigrants to the United States.
The indiscriminate crackdown on immigrants in the US undermines human dignity, he noted and expressed his consternation at the reality of the US with the maltreatment and disregard of immigrants being the commonplace.
The immigration policy should be pursued in full accordance with the law, and a possible disregard for the legal procedures might carry the risk of weakening social confidence and violating private rights, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights warned.
Strongly urging that human dignity and rights should be respected in the process of enforcing the immigration policy and law, he pointed out that it is inhuman, wrong and contrary to the basis and value of the State to brand all of them as the target of crimes and threats and social incubi, simply on the grounds of them being immigrants.
