Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- It has been 80 years since President Kim Il Sung founded the Pyongyang Institute, the first base for training military and political cadres in the DPRK, on February 23, 1946 after the liberation of Korea (August 15, 1945).
One day in November 1945, the President personally chose the site for the institute on the spot and stressed the need to make good preparations for setting up various services, arms and military schools in the necessary period by developing the institute in the future.
He named the first institute "Pyongyang Institute" and became its honorary director to guide the educational work of the institute.
In his speech "Congratulations on the Opening of the Pyongyang Institute" made at the opening ceremony of the then Pyongyang Institute on February 23, 1946, he clarified the character and mission of the institute and set forth the task for training military and political cadres needed to build the regular revolutionary armed forces.
Afterwards, he visited the institute frequently and paid attention to its management and education and the military training and life of cadets.
Under his leadership, the institute was built into a mother base for training military and political cadres with regularized appearance.
The institute trained a large number of competent political and military cadres conducive to building a new country and founding the regular armed forces, and its graduates made a great contribution to strengthening the political and military might of the DPRK. -0-
