The recently-held Ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea underscored the need to invariably lift the ideals of “The people are god,” single-hearted unity and self-reliance as the banner of struggle and advance during the ninth term of its Central Committee just as it did during the previous term.

The three ideals are the powerful driving force behind accelerated comprehensive development of Korean-style socialism.

The ideal of “The people are god” reflects the Party’s consistent demand that it must hold fast to the revolutionary trait of regarding service to the people as the starting point and absolute and invariable principle of its building and activities, whereas the ideals of single-hearted unity and self-reliance intensely embody the ideological and theoretical standpoint and policy-oriented requirements concerning the lifeblood and driving force of the Korean revolution.

Over the past five years, the Party, by consistently adhering to the ideals, created a new trend of comprehensive development of socialism, put the overall national economy on a track of growth and ensured socialist policies related to the welfare of the people were enforced in an expanded manner.

The Party’s ennobling intention is that all policies should be adopted in such a way as to give top and absolute priority to the interests and convenience of the people, and that they should be people-oriented ones which reach the most difficult and backward places first where the people live to translate their cherished desire into reality. This intention was the fundamental source that has constantly expanded and deepened their earnest demands and desires.

The Party has given definite precedence to ideological work to encourage the masses to turn out with voluntary devotion to the implementation of the Party’s policies, thus effecting an uninterrupted upswing in socialist construction as a whole by the concerted efforts of the collective firmly united with one ideology and purpose.

While supporting the Party’s ideas and cause for the past five years, the Korean people were firmly convinced that its policies are an absolute truth and their implementation provides a guarantee for accelerating comprehensive development of socialism.

Thanks to the leadership of the WPK which adopts self-reliance as the lifeblood, the internal force with which to overcome any difficulties facing the country by dint of self-reliance has remarkably increased, and this has made the Korean people firmly confident of their own strength.

The Ninth Congress of the WPK unfolded a grandiose plan for promoting the national prosperity and development and people’s wellbeing.

The Korean people are now fully determined to carry out the Party’s plan and decision to definitely lead the comprehensive development of socialism onto a higher stage by lifting as ever the said ideals as the banner of their struggle and advance.
