Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, provided field guidance to the May 11 Factory.

The factory is a modern scientific research and production center which researches and develops varieties of electronic goods including liquid crystal display TV sets urgently required by the people's cultural and emotional life.

Going round the electronic device assembling shop and other places, he acquainted himself in detail with the modernization, management and operation of the factory.

He highly praised the scientists, technicians and workers of the factory for displaying creative working style and patriotic enthusiasm in building new process capable of producing hundreds of thousands of liquid crystal display TV sets in a year and thus laying a solid groundwork for mass-producing such TV sets of various sizes.

Seeing with keen interest new equipment and multilayer printed circuit boards requiring high-tech researched and developed by the scientists and technicians of the factory, he said it is great success that they provided a firm scientific and technological guarantee for economic development including electronics industry.

The officials, scientists and technicians of the factory newly researched and developed varieties of electronic goods of high performance at the factory because they worked hard with the single desire to glorify the cause of building a thriving nation with great scientific research achievements, looking at the world with their feet planted on their ground, he said. These shining achievements are a clear proof of the validity and vitality of the Party's policy on taking hold on science and technology as the lifeline for the building of an economic power, he added.

He put forward the important tasks facing the factory.

What is important is to rapidly increase the production of articles for cultural use and electronic goods including liquid crystal display TV sets to meet the requirements in the era of knowledge-based economy and the daily-growing need of the people, he said.

It is of special importance to improve the quality of all products turned out at the factory and, at the same time, cut down the production cost through deep-going scientific researches, he noted, stressing that only then, the products of this factory can be popular among customers and it is possible to bring about a new turn in enterprise management.

In order to effect a new turn in the development and production of electronic goods to meet the requirements of the new century, it is imperative to provide ample conditions for scientific researches and production and pay deep attention to the living of the scientists and technicians.
