Pyongyang, December 23 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Saturday dedicates an editorial to the 26th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army.
The editorial says that holding Kim Jong Il, the peerless and brilliant commander of Songun, at the top post of the revolutionary armed forces on Dec. 24, Juche 80 (1991) was a historic event of special significance in carving out the destiny of the country and its people.
It goes on:
Kim Jong Il was the peerless and brilliant commander of Songun who strengthened and developed the People's Army into the elite revolutionary armed forces and defended socialism and vigorously advanced it by dint of arms.
Under the grim situation which decided the destiny of the country and its people he resolutely chose the road of Songun, "do-or-die" one, and brought about a signal heyday of bolstering the military power with his indomitable revolutionary faith and will and matchless grit and pluck. The outposts for defending the country visited by him to ensure the eternal future of socialist Korea associated with the whole life of President Kim Il Sung bear witness to the ardent and patriotic devotion of the peerlessly great man.
On the road of the high-intensity forced march of the legendary and brilliant commander of Songun which could not be found in human history the KPA could be strengthened and developed into the revolutionary armed forces each man of which is a match for a hundred foes, the military miracles in which it has demonstrated only victories in the acute showdown with the imperialist allied forces were performed and the new era of building a powerful socialist nation was ushered in.
The service personnel and people of the DPRK can never forget the immortal and patriotic exploits of Kim Jong Il who set the example of the times in the struggle against the imperialists and the U.S. and provided the powerful Juche-oriented force for winning the final victory by pursuing the original Songun politics.
The editorial appeals to everyone to add eternal shine to his exploits of building the revolutionary armed forces and wage a dynamic struggle for final victory of the Juche revolutionary cause, united close around the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. -0-
