Nations eye digitized economies

Once limited to production processes and some special institutions, digital technology is now used in all fields of state administration, the economy and social life. Especially, many nations pay much attention to digitizing their economies.

Digitization not only helps cut costs of products and service and make more effective use of natural and human resources but also promotes exchanges and cooperation between countries and regions as it ensures prompt and accurate business dealings.

In China, the need for building a digital China, intelligent society, was underscored at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and active steps have been taken to this end.

Russia appointed a presidential special representative for the development of digital technology in order to conjoin the efforts for the digitization of the economy and special fields, and is speeding up the amendment of law and other legal measures for the implementation of the economic digitization programme in the spring of 2019 in anticipation of the arrival of the next generation mobile communications network.

Tunisia drew up the “digitized Tunisia 2020” programme which is geared to putting the country’s economy on the basis of advanced technology by introducing digital systems into industrial and commercial sectors.

Germany runs refresher courses for improving the digitization capability, acknowledging that it is as important as professional knowledge and sociability.

The building of digitized economies is also a matter of great concern of international organizations.

In April and September last year, the ASEAN nations agreed to establish an ASEAN intelligent city network and launch the fourth industrial revolution. And there was a serious discussion about economic digitization at the APEC economic summit meeting held last November.

The BRICS also discussed digitization at a summit meeting and the Eurasian Union decided to include digitized economy building as an important part of joint undertaking.
