The South Hamgyong provincial prospecting management bureau has recently researched and introduced a new alluvial gold prospecting method.
“The method is economical as it enables us to directly find out gold dust with high precision at a lower cost by combining the radiation probe and nuclear resonance magnetometer that are used in geological survey,” said Kim Chol Sok at the prospecting technical information room.
Originally, technicians transmitted certain signals equivalent to the natural frequency of alluvial gold molecule with a radiation probe on the principle that all substances have their specific molecular structures and molecules oscillate at different frequencies in a low-energy state.
At the time vibration was created at the place where gold dust existed and gold molecules were excited from a low-energy state to a high-energy state. This was sensed and direct prospecting was carried out to promptly find out the target.
“The old method was very effective when the minerals were present in a vein or concentratedly. But it was difficult to pinpoint the correct location when they were distributed in a dispersed way in a vast area,” said technician Kim Yong Chol.
Therefore, they completed the method of finding out alluvial gold ore body by way of measuring the magnetic field with the nuclear resonance magnetometer and interpreting abnormal magnetic field based on altitude difference.
General prospecting teams can also discover gold dust with precision of 75 percent without an expensive high-sensitivity magnetometer or elastic wave instrument by primarily detecting the area where alluvial gold may be present with a radiation probe and then verifying the precision through magnetic prospecting with a nuclear resonance magnetometer.
The management bureau has introduced the new method into different units in the province including Pujon and Kumya areas.
