April 26 is World Intellectual Property Day.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was established with the aim of ensuring cooperation between states and regions and promoting the protection of intellectual property worldwide.
Marking the day, many countries have conducted diverse activities to make people understand the importance of intellectual property rights and more briskly create intellectual wealth which plays an important role in social progress and economic and cultural development.
The theme for this year's World Intellectual Property Day is “IP and SDGs: building our future with innovation and creativity”.
Intellectual property is a powerful means for all states to revitalize the economy and strengthen overall national power, and people’s interest in intellectual wealth and its ownership is growing further as society develops.
The DPRK joined the World Intellectual Property Organization in August 1974. It is directing great efforts to increasing intellectual wealth and thoroughly protecting it by constantly developing science and technology.
It newly amended and supplemented provisions stipulating the deliberation, registration and protective relations of intellectual property and is further intensifying the effort.
Short courses and lectures related to the protection of IP are given for officials and working people in different sectors.
With progress being made to attain the national IP development goal, intellectual wealth is being created continuously and the number of scientists, researchers and officials who were awarded the WIPO medal of inventors and certificate is on the increase.
The prosperous and civilized future will be brought earlier thanks to the efforts of the DPRK to steadily develop the IP system and actively promote social development.
