In May 1972 when Chairman Kim Jong Il who made
field guidance to Ryanggang Province called a leading official of the provincial
Party committee and told him to prepare potato foods underlining that every possible
potato food should be included. That evening he came to the spot and asked in a very
satisfied voice whether all foods had been made with potato.Told from the official that every food had been made
with potato, he asked how many kinds they were in all.The official said to the Chairman that they were 80
kinds. He repeatedly said several times that it was so great and looked at one
food after another on tables.He was much satisfied by saying that potato is good,
indeed as the people can make with potato such different kinds of food as potato
dumpling, potato starch noodle and frozen potato rice cake.Looking round the tables, he told the officials that
he had confidence in himself when he saw the potato foods. He said time and
again that potato is very good material for food.He said that not only food problem would be properly
solved but dietary life diversified if potato foods were made in the same way
as arranged on the tables. He also said that it is necessary for Ryanggang
Province to cultivate potato a lot and took necessary measures.The officials realized that the arranged tables had
been prepared not to show the number of potato foods but to give them confidence
that they can solve the food problem of the people with potato.
The DPRK is now planting potato in every part of the
country and developing its processing methods in a diversified manner upholding
the policy of potato farming revolution set forth by the Chairman, thus making
an active contribution to the solution of the people’s food problem.
