Pothong River was a river of resentment and tears that gave only miseries and pains to the Korean people under the Japanese imperialist colonial rule.
Pothong River has been newly changed its appearance from May 21, 1946, after liberation, when President Kim Il Sung broke ground to start its improvement project.
Monumental edifices of the WPK’s era were erected one after another and numerous parks and pleasure grounds built along the riverbank under the energetic leadership of leader Kim Jong Il who was loyal to the noble intention of President Kim Il Sung.
Modern streets like Chollima Street, Kyonghung Street, Ponghwa Street and Pulgun Street were built as masterpieces of the era of the WPK along the river.
Monumental edifices like the People’s Palace of Culture, Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, Changgwang Health Complex, Ice Rink, Chyongryu Restaurant and Mansugyo Fish and Meat Shop which is permeated with respected Kim Jong Un’s love for the people, Mirae Shop for the scientists and technicians and comprehensive service complex and comprehensive sports village have been built on the bank of Pothong River.
Today Pothong River has become a river of the people’s paradise and happiness which is full of their pleasure and laughter.
