Russia is making a big effort to develop the Far Eastern region.

Especially, nationwide attention and effort are directed to improving the living standards of the residents so as to prevent an outflow of the local population and improving the economic growth rate so that the region can outdo others.

Recently, President Putin signed a directive on taking a measure for improving the livelihood of the Far Eastern people and increasing the development rate of the region.

Accordingly, the Russian government mapped out a plan for making the average life expectancy of the Far Eastern population higher than the national average, increasing the area of dwelling construction 1.6 times more than the present figure and encouraging investment in the region to build many new enterprises around the free port of Vladivostok by 2024. By doing so, it is going to remarkably boost the people’s living standards and economic growth rate in the region by 2035.

Russia is trying to transport marine products of the Far Eastern region through the Arctic sea route to the European part of the country on a regular basis. Icebreakers are needed for the normal operation of the sea route since it crosses the Arctic Ocean along the northern coast of the country. Therefore, the government is planning to halve the passage money of icebreakers by subsidizing their operation.

It is also planning to set up a single aviation company of the Far Eastern region.

According to a plan worked out by the federal traffic bureau and the Ministry of Development of the Far East and Arctic of Russia, the new company will include several national and local airlines.

Meanwhile, much attention is paid to developing the railway infrastructure and increasing the volume of freight traffic.

This year, the Far Eastern railway bureau is pushing ahead with the construction and reconstruction of stations, division points and bridges, with an eye on completing 68 objects.

Russia has worked out a project for regenerating the region by developing a convenient tourist route to the Far East, which might involve leading local travel companies.
