A homemade laser cutter is widely being introduced into factories in the light industry sector.
“A laser cutter was first applied to the Wonsan Leather Shoes Factory. At that time it had only a simple cutting function. But I realized the demand of workers as I kept in constant touch with them and upgraded the device accordingly,” said an official of the Ministry of Light Industry.
Researchers developed a laser cutter-based processing support system which makes it possible to cut holes on the surface of synthetic leather and precisely carve or cut any complex figure, curve, letter and image with laser beam.
According to key developer Yo Chol Bom, this system enables the user to increase product processing accuracy and speed in various forms in convenient environment.
The new laser cutter comes in large, medium and small ones according to work area.
The Wonsan Leather Shoes Factory has now several such cutters.
“The introduction of this cutter removed previous manual work and complicated production processes and has enabled us to quickly and precisely cut a large quantity of materials according to computer designs and turn out new products as we wish,” said the chief engineer of the factory.
The laser cutter was also applied to the Pyongyang Leather Shoes Factory, Pothonggang Footwear Factory, Hungnam Leather Shoes Factory, Phyongsong Artificial Leather Factory, Sinuiju and Nampho bag factories and many other factories.
The laser cutter-based processing support system makes it possible to accurately cut with laser beam such nonmetallic materials as all kinds of cloths, leathers, plastics, organic glass and plywood, modernize production processes and diversify products in kind and shape. It was evaluated as one of top ten IT products at the national exhibition of IT achievements last year.
