Neighbourhood Unit No. 16 in Pipha-dong No. 2, Moranbong District, Pyongyang, provides a perfect introduction to the DPRK in which all its people form a large family and live harmoniously.
At the end of last April, Choe Chun Sok, a 70-year-old resident of the neighbourhood unit, was taken to a hospital in an ambulance for his acute myocardial infraction.
Neighbours gave sincere help to his treatment with warm affection of loving as they do their family members. They sent various health tonics and frequently visited him in the period when he received treatment and after he left the hospital.
Thanks to their sincerity, Choe recovered his health in a short span of time.
The sincerity of neighbours served as a good medicine for him, said Ri Un Gyong, daughter-in-law of Choe, expressing her heartfelt gratitude for their help.
This is a simple story about the true feeling and sincerity of neighbours.
All neighbours regard each other’s affairs as their own. When a newly-wed couple had a baby, they prepared clothes for it and gave pep-talks to those who joined the army or entered universities after graduating from middle schools while presenting souvenirs to them.
“When I was taken to hospital due to acute appendicitis, I was very uneasy with the thought of my daughter as my husband was on a business trip. At that time, my neighbours took good care of my daughter and housekeeping with the feeling of my mother,” said Kim Hyang Mi, a resident of the neighbourhood unit.
Today, all the neighbours share weal and woe with each other and the housewives share special foods with neighbours.
With warm feelings interflowing between them, the harmony of the neighbourhood unit has further been fostered and they take an active part in doing good things for the country.
“All the residents of our neighbourhood unit are living on good terms like a family. As all neighbours are at peace with each other, everything goes well,” said Kim Hyang Mi who has lived there for over a decade.
