Leafy vegetables are produced in large quantities at the Jungphyong Vegetable Greenhouse Farm.
The history of greenhouse vegetable farming in the DPRK is unthinkable apart from the immortal leadership of the peerlessly great men.
On his visit to the Jangchon Cooperative Farm in Sadong District, Pyongyang, in April 1982, President Kim Il Sung gave an instruction that would serve as guidelines in bringing about a new turn in greenhouse vegetable production and abundantly producing and supplying fresh vegetables to the people in all seasons.
Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the farm on several occasions and led farmers to do farming properly while always cherishing the benevolence of the President in mind.
The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un gave field guidance at the farm in June 2014 and saw that a civilized rural town was built in less than a year after getting familiar with the actual conditions of the farm.
While providing field inspection tour of the farm in June the following year, Kim Jong Un underscored the need to boost vegetable production and properly manage and operate the farm and do business activities.
The change in Jangchon has kindled fierce flames of greenhouse vegetable farming throughout the country.
In the last few years, arch-style and semi-arched vinyl sheet greenhouses were built on a large scale throughout the country, a sci-tech symposium of the greenhouse vegetable sector took place and a socialist emulation drive was conducted between provinces, cities, and counties to increase greenhouse vegetable and mushroom production.
In 2019 alone, Pyongyang rebuilt dozens of blocks of vegetable greenhouses according to the standard design and carried out a soil ameliorant project for hundreds of blocks of vegetable greenhouses, and thus increased greenhouse vegetable production.
Yomju County in North Phyongan Province produced over hundreds of tons of greenhouse vegetables, while Songchon County in South Phyongan Province turned out a large quantity of fresh vegetables even in winter.
In December 2019, a modern vegetable greenhouse farm sprang up in the Jungphyong area of Kyongsong County in North Hamgyong Province.
