The Taesong Vegetable Greenhouse Farm under the Rural Economy Committee of North Hwanghae Province directs efforts to exterminating harmful insects.
According to experts, as the temperature in vegetable greenhouses is always high, various diseases often develop, reducing crop yield.
The farm solves the problem in various ways.
“We are eradicating plant lice by using yellow attractive adhesive plate to prevent mildew,” said chief engineer Min Hyong Jun.
According to him, if mildew breaks out, vegetable leaves turn yellowish brown and so they cannot photosynthesize.
The farmers paste different kinds of adhesives on the surface of yellow plates to kill plant lice like cabbage butterfly, diamondback moth and turnip sawfly which have relatively high taxis to yellow colour.
They also treat excrement of cattle and effectively use it to wipe out different diseases.
Various germs are found in cattle excrement and some of them have sterilizing effect. They exist under the atmospheric conditions in a certain period of time, secreting antibiotic substances. The cell walls of Pseudoperonospora cubensis and true mildew fungi are surrounded by many fibres and the antibiotic substances of these fungi act to dissolve cellulose and kill the fungi.
Besides, soil disinfectant, natural bio-activator and others are used.
