Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- After occupying Korea illegally in the last century, the Japanese imperialists had inflicted untold sufferings and misfortune upon the Korean people, committing lots of heinous crimes against them.
One of the crimes is that they cracked down with bayonets the Korean people's June 10th Independence Movement.
The movement, launched on June 10, 1926 with the death of Sunjong, the last emperor of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910), and a funeral service for him as an occasion, was an eruption of the Korean nation's pent-up grudge against the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule.
Taking the Korean people's anti-Japanese sentiment into consideration, the Japanese imperialists set up a garrison command in Kyongsong (now Seoul) and posted cordons of police and gendarme along streets in a bid to check the advance of the masses going to mourn for the death of Sunjong. They mobilized 7 000 troops armed with cannons and machine guns from Japanese army divisions stationed in Korea and the Japan proper and 3 500 policemen.
On the funeral day, they deployed armed policemen along the roads to be passed by the bier and even made their special secret-service police and stooges creep into the masses.
Nevertheless, 200 000 people rose up in the demonstration in Kyongsong, scattering written appeals and shouting the slogans "Long live the independence of Korea!" and "the Japanese army, get out!".
The Japanese imperialists ruthlessly employed violence on the demonstrators. As a result, many people were wounded or arrested and cruelly tortured or killed in prison.
The facts more evidently show that the Japanese imperialists were the barbarous colonial ruler who trampled down the primary political rights of the Korean people. -0-
