The Congress of the DPRK Red Cross Society was held by way of video conference on June 8-9 with members of its central, provincial, city and county committees in attendance.
A report was delivered on the work of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society in 2017-2020.
The reporter referred to the achievements the RC society central committee made in the period under review.
Saying that the mission of the DPRK RC Society is to prevent and alleviate people’s misfortunes and suffering and promote their welfare including health, he called on all RC officials and volunteers to turn out as one in the efforts to attain the 2021-2030 strategic goals to be discussed and adopted in the congress. He pointed to the issue of getting fully prepared to effectively respond to all kinds of disasters and fulfilling the RC mission in line with the national crisis management system in case of disasters, that of permanently keeping up the RC society’s structural development and its capacity building for information and source mobilization and that of continuing to foster international cooperation.
He expressed the belief that the national RC society would carry out the tasks for up until 2030 to be deliberated on and adopted in the congress so as to develop it into a more competent national organization as required by the changing reality of the country and the development trend of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent movement and achieve substantial progress in the service for the people.
The congress adopted the strategy, the revised and supplemented directions of activities of each sector and the rules of the RC society and elected its new leadership body.
