The respected Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, visited the Friendship Tower on July 28 on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.
He was accompanied by Jo Yong Won, Ri Il Hwan, Jong Sang Hak, Ri Pyong Chol, Pak Jong Chon, Kwon Yong Jin and Ri Yong Gil.
Amid the playing of the wreath-laying music, a wreath was laid in the name of Kim Jong Un.
Written on the ribbon of the wreath were the letters reading; "I pay noble respects in the name of the entire Korean people. On behalf of the Korean people. Kim Jong Un"
Kim Jong Un paid noble respects to the martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteers who dedicated their precious lives in the Fatherland Liberation War of the Korean people against the imperialist aggression.
The guard of honour of the Korean People's Army marched in file.
Kim Jong Un, together with the accompanying senior officials, looked round the Friendship Tower.
He said the genuine militant friendship and unparalleled self-sacrificing spirit of the officers and men of the Chinese People's Volunteers, who fought shoulder to shoulder with the Korean army in the days of the fierce war under the banner of resisting America and aiding Korea, protecting the home and defending the motherland, have been written in the history of great victory and vivid in the memory of the Korean people.
He also said: The Chinese people aided the sacred historic struggle of the Korean people at the cost of their blood when the Democratic People's Republic of Korea suffered from the severest and most difficult crisis. Their lofty soul and exploits will be immortal along with prospering socialist Korea. The DPRK-China friendship forged with the ties of kindred will be firmly carried forward on the road for the common cause generation after generation, he added.
