The sultry weather has been persisting since July 12 in the DPRK.
In most parts of the country, the atmospheric humidity is recorded at over 70 percent and the maximum temperature at over 33℃. Especially, in some areas including northern inland regions, the highest temperature during the day is over 35℃ with the humidity being 80 percent.
According to the State Hydro-Meteorological Administration, this heat wave is expected to continue.
Since the intense heat may cause different diseases like sunstroke, the mass media and public health sector have launched a publicity campaign while adopting measures to prevent damage.
Along with TV and radio stations, loudspeaker vans enlisted by local government agencies are raising public awareness of safety precautions during a heat wave and various sectors are taking relevant preliminary measures.
As a result, outdoor activities are discouraged in the daytime when the heat is the most intense and those who must go out inevitably are advised to wear a hat or parasol and sunglasses.
As to the persistent heat wave, household doctors are required to have a greater sense of responsibility.
They go to residential districts in their charge on a regular basis to assess the conditions of old people and chronic invalids and take relevant measures and to cope with emergency cases in time.
Doctors at nurseries and kindergartens are paying special attention to the management of children’s health.
Quarantine stations in different areas are making increasingly exact demands on local public catering amenities to store foods and disinfect utensils properly so as to prevent food poisoning, while the transport sector intensifies servicing and monitoring of public transport means lest abnormal things happen due to intense heat.
