The liberation of Korea was brought by the concerted efforts of the entire Korean nation loving the country and hating the Japanese imperialists.

The great leader Kim Il Sung firmly united all the Korean people, regarding the great unity of the whole nation as the fundamental prerequisite for accomplishing the sacred cause of national liberation.

It was his view that the only way for the Korean people to achieve independence is to join the efforts of the nation.

The Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland was founded in the latter half of the 1930s when the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle entered a period of great upsurge. It was a permanent united front organization that roused all people to the anti-Japanese resistance.

Kang Jin A, Lecturer of the Korean Revolution Museum, says:

"The Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland was formed on May 5, 1936.

It was an organization founded by the great leader Kim Il Sung to organize and mobilize broad masses of people to the struggle for national liberation.

He authored the 'Ten-Point Programme of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland' and its inaugural declaration. He wrote in the declaration that if all 20 million of Koreans pool their wisdom and strength in the struggle against the Japanese imperialists, those with money contributing money, those with food donating food and those with skill and knowledge devoting their skill and knowledge, whether men or women, young or old, regardless of all distinctions, the independence of Korea will surely be achieved.

He also wrote the 'Song of the Ten-Point Programme of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland' consisting of 10 stanzas."

The foundation of the Association for the Restoration of the Fatherland made it possible to powerfully organize and mobilize all the anti-Japanese forces to the struggle for national liberation.

The network of organizations of the Association spread to not only all parts of the homeland but also different regions abroad where Koreans were living. It involved broad anti-Japanese patriotic forces including workers, peasants, youth and students and intellectuals.

Under the guidance of Kim Il Sung, the organizations of the Association were prepared as a powerful force that could rouse the nation all at once to the final battle against the Japanese imperialists.

On August 9, Juche 34(1945) Kim Il Sung issued an order of general attack for national liberation to the units of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army.

A nationwide resistance was launched to join the general attack of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army, and the Japanese imperialists declared unconditional surrender on August 15.

It is the truth and lesson taught by history that a nation will win victory when united and ruin when divided.
