Now, almost all the countries in the world are suffering serious damages from climate change caused by global warming.

In the past 50 years the number of natural disasters caused by drought, typhoon, flood, high temperature, heat wave and others increased five times across the world.

According to the World Meteorological Organization on September 1, the death toll of natural disasters stood at over two million in the period between 1970 and 2019.

According to a recent report of the World Bank, climate change will have a significant effect on people’s living environment to become a major contributor to worldwide migration. It estimated that internal migration would take place in early 2030 and 216 million people in six regions of the world would be displaced by 2050.

The director-general of the World Health Organization noted that climate change gives rise to various health crises such as food shortage and worsening malnutrition, saying there is no vaccine against climate crisis.

Such reality compels the international community to make positive efforts against climate change.

Recently, international organizations including the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Meteorological Organization issued a joint report that analysed the seriousness of adverse consequences to be entailed by climate change. The report was drawn up with a purpose of enhancing public awareness of climate change on the basis of the latest scientific research data. It analysed the seriousness of the consequences of climate change largely in eight fields and referred to the needs to take decisive measures to attain sustainable development goals and deal with climate change.

The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States summit held on September 18, with leaders of 12 regional countries in attendance including Cuba, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, discussed matters concerning the establishment of a regional fund to ward off disasters caused by climate change.

The 26th session of the Conference of Parties (COP26) to the UN climate change convention to be held in November will reportedly set four major goals including the meeting of commitment to the provision of US$ 100 billion climate funds every year.

Many countries also put in a great deal of effort to deal with climate change.

Following the trend of the world economy towards low carbon energy, Russia intends to work out a comprehensive plan for adapting its economy to the global economy and organize a working group of experts. As part of its efforts to this end, it announced to the world through Internet that it would start the operation of an ecologically clean thermal power station mainly using natural gas in Khabarovsk in 2024.

A Cabinet meeting was held in the Democratic Republic of Congo on September 17 to discuss the matter of attaining the world’s goal of turning into energy drastically reducing air pollution until 2035.

Kenya has started the introduction of a system which can provide information about disastrous weather conditions in real time through smart phone.

The international community will continue to direct efforts against climate change in the future.
