The Rinsan Catfish Farm is located in Taechon-ri of Rinsan County, North Hwanghae Province.
It uses hot spring water gushing out of the point between limestone and granite areas.
“Taechon-ri produced only mud snails using hot spring water in the past. But it is now well known to the province as a catfish producer,” workteam leader Sin Chun Il said.
According to him, the temperature of the hot spring water is between 24 and 33 degrees centigrade, an ideal condition for the growth of catfish.
The farm established an integrated production system to control water temperature, pH and amount of oxygen of indoor and outdoor ponds in real time and therefore the quantities of water and feed are adjusted accordingly.
What is noticeable is that it set up a scientific system of producing pure and seed fish to increase the survival rate of fries.
“We introduced a production method stimulating hypophysis and discovered a way to improve incubation rate, while establishing a scientific method of raising and tending seed fish,” said manager Jang In Hak.
It also put a water recycling system on a scientific basis to better the quality of water flowing into fry ponds and raises the level of scientific water management based on the water analysis system, including the sterilization and supply of water and an efficient way of changing water according to growth conditions.
It established a system of raising fish with floating feed with high protein content and actual feeding rate while reducing the norms of feed consumption.
It has recently introduced a gravity-fed water supply system to fill ponds of an indoor fattening block with water without using electricity.
The farm turns out millions of fries a year to send them to fish ponds and paddy fields in cities and counties of the province.
