Unethical rash act threatening humankind

Date: 14/10/2021 | Source: Pyongyang Times | Read original version at source

Japan announced a plan to discharge radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea after two years at the recent general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Its bid to do so is a criminal and adventurous attempt which threatens the life and health of humankind and destroys ecological environment of the earth, only seeking its own interests. Therefore, the international community is now raising voices against Japan.

The UN special rapporteur on the implications for human rights of the environmentally sound management and disposal of hazardous substances and wastes expressed concern, saying that discharging radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea is premature, at the 48th meeting of the UN Human Rights Council.

China and other Pacific nations are strongly condemning Japan’s move. The Pacific Islands Forum asserted that the main worry of its member nations over Japan’s decision on the discharge has not yet been removed, denouncing Japan for obstinately pushing ahead with the preparations for the release.

It is a just criticism of the international community against the criminal attempt of Japan which threatens the global ecological environment and security with selfish desire in disregard of others’ lives.

When there was the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in 2011, a large quantity of radioactive substances leaked to spread around the world in an instant.

Since March this year there have also been three rounds of leaks from the waste container of the power plant.

According to information available, in case Japan discharges radioactive wastewater into the sea, not only the East Sea of Korea but the whole of Pacific Ocean will be contaminated to inflict serious damage on humankind.

Actually, the radiation leakage caused by the explosion of the plant has seriously affected the ecological environment of the whole world beyond continents and oceans and the damage has not been cleared away yet. Now that large quantities of radioactive substances have already spread to air and sea, it is as clear as day what consequences will ensue when more radioactive wastewater is released into the sea. Needless to say, the entire Pacific will be contaminated and humankind will be under threat of nuclear calamity.

Lots of countries operate nuclear power plants around the world. But only Japan has dumped nuclear waste without discretion for its own sake, threatening the very existence of other countries and nations.

The international community will never tolerate the contamination of the blue sea with nuclear waste to be caused by Japan’s unethical act.

Japan should heed the stern warning of the international community, refrain from rash acts and abandon the plan to discharge radioactive wastewater into the sea.
