Catfish farming is done on a large scale at modern catfish farms built in all parts of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The Pyongyang Catfish Farm contributing to the improvement of diet of the capital citizens is a model of the fish farms in the country.
The respected Kim Jong Un gave field guidance to the farm two times.
Looking round the farm in December Juche 103(2014), he said the quickest way to provide the people with more fish is to produce fish in an industrial way. That day, he conceived a plan to renovate the farm into a model and standard of the fish farms in the country.
He visited the farm again in October the next year. Saying with great pleasure that the farm had been changed completely in a year, he highly appreciated that it had doubled the output without increasing the area of fish ponds, manpower and volume of water.
Pak Yong Rok, Manager of the Pyongyang Catfish Farm, says:
"The respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un said it is a success that the production capacity of the farm has been expanded and the catfish production increased, but the greater success is that the farm has been turned into a model and standard of the fish farms.
He noted that since the farm is a standardized one breeding catfish in a scientific way, it is necessary to make sci-tech books and multimedia programs with experiences and data gained in the production for dissemination throughout the country. This way, the achievements of the farm can be generalized in all parts of the country, he added."
Afterwards, the Sunchon, Samchon and other modern catfish farms were built on the model of the Pyongyang Catfish Farm.
Today, the Pyongyang Catfish Farm not only plays the role of a catfish producer but also discharges the mission as a centre disseminating science and technology on catfish farming to other units.
