Mt. Kumgang is known as one of the six celebrated mountains of Korea for myriad shapes of its magnificent, graceful and extraordinary scenery.
Samson Rocks are one of many queer rocks in Mt. Kumgang. They are standing at the entrance to the area of Manmulsang(a multitude of views) which was named so because it seems as if things of all shapes in the world gathered there.
The three high rocks are standing abreast. They seem to be moving when the clouds drift. They look like heavenly men coming down from the sky and hence the name--Samson Rocks(Three Heavenly Men Rocks).
The Samson Rocks are about 30 metres high respectively and they are similar but have different features. The front rock is as sharp as a spearhead, the middle one is as swollen as a sack and the last one is as bulgy as a fist.
Pine-nut and pine trees, azalea and other plants growing in the crevices of the rocks make the scenery of the rocky mountain more conspicuous in every season.
The Samson Rocks have a legend that three heavenly men came to see Mt. Kumgang and fascinated by its beautiful scenery, they failed to go back to the sky but were stiffened to rocks.
They are of scientific significance and specially queer and beautiful. So they were registered as a natural monument of Korea. They add beauty to the landscape of the celebrated Mt. Kumgang.
