The Global Environmental Information Institute under the State Academy of Sciences has developed a national integrated disaster control information system.
The system plays an important role in predicting those regions to be hit by natural disasters in advance, monitoring the situation at the time of disaster in real time and taking measures to minimize damages by introducing the space information technology.
Researchers had detailed assignment of design for the system according to the weather and physiographical conditions of Korea.
They provided a guarantee for finishing their research at an early date by solving the sci-tech problems arising in the mode of structure and operation of the network service by latest technology in line with the international standard. They also developed and completed the programs and techniques needed for the operation.
The method was established to model in a three-dimensional way and analyze the disastrous weather phenomena by using the space information technology, making it possible to complete the system capable of assessing in real time the flood, typhoon and drought occurring on a nationwide scale.
