The Pyongyang Bell was cast in 1726 during the feudal Joson dynasty. It is hanging in the belfry on the bank of the River Taedong in the capital city Pyongyang.
The Pyongyang Bell was one of the leading big bells at that time. It was called an "attraction of Pyongyang" long ago for its beautiful shape and solemn sound.
The Pyongyang Bell is 3.1 metres high and its mouth is 1.6 metres across. The body spreads out a bit toward the mouth, giving a sense of security.
The Pyongyang Bell is well preserved as a valuable national treasure showing the characteristics of the Korean bell and the development of the bell-casting technique.
