The Korean Art Association of the Disabled has set it as its mission and duty to champion the rights and demands of persons with disabilities for their cultural and leisure activities, provide them with conditions and environment for giving full play to their artistic and creative potentials, and conduct exchanges with governmental and non-governmental organizations in various countries and international bodies.
The association shows close concern for artistic activities of persons with disabilities and makes sure that they take an active part in them.
Those who have unusual aptitudes for vocal and instrumental music, dance and fine arts are involved in relevant groups.
Ju Su Yang with hearing impairment performed the leading role in the fairy-tale dance Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs , well known through several rounds of performances, and Pae Ok Rim with visual impairment is a famous singer. They are group members of the association.
The association is making efforts to create excellent works which reflect the life of persons with disabilities by drawing on the rich experience it has gained in the performances staged by them.
The programme includes Overcoming Physical Disabilities , a dance depicting the life of persons with disabilities overcoming physical problems and adding lustre to their life, and Do They Know? , a dance which reflects the joy and optimism in their working life.
Ri Kuk Chol, author and poet of the association with locomotive disabilities, found the themes of the two dance pieces in life to portray them in an artistic way.
The association carries on the work of training reserve players of traditional musical instruments and other artistes in a systematic manner.
It has brought delight to people by giving art performances on many occasions.
Its art group members held their premiere in 2010 to mark the international day of persons with disabilities (December 3). Since then, they have held more than 100 performances at home and abroad, including those in France in 2015, in Great Britain in 2017 and in China in 2019.
Officials of the association are devoting all their wisdom and passion to the effort for making persons with disabilities bring their artistic talents into full bloom.
