National memorial service for the great leader Kim Jong Il solemnly took place at the plaza of the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on December 17 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his demise.
Present there were officials of the Party and government bodies, working people's organizations, ministries, national agencies and armed forces organs, service personnel of the Korean People's Army and the Public Security Forces and officials and working people in Pyongyang City.
The respected Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, came out to the platform of the memorial service.
He was followed by Choe Ryong Hae, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and First Vice-President of the State Affairs Commission and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK; Jo Yong Won, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and Secretary for Organizational Affairs of the Central Committee of the WPK; Kim Tok Hun, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and Vice-President of the State Affairs Commission and Premier of the Cabinet of the DPRK; and Pak Jong Chon, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK.
The platform was taken by senior officials of the Party and government, the Chairman of a friendly party and exemplary officials and meritorious persons in the implementation of Kim Jong Il's instructions and the first-year task of the five-year plan set forth at the Eighth Congress of the Party.
Kwon Yong Jin, Ri Yong Gil and other officials of the armed forces organs also came out.
Ri Il Hwan, Member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, declared the national memorial service open.
All the participants observed a moment's silence in memory of Kim Jong Il with humblest reverence for him.
Choe Ryong Hae delivered a memorial address under the title "The Great Leader Kim Jong Il Will Always Be with Our People".
The memorial service ended with the playing of the song "The General Is Immortal as the Sun".
Guns of condolence were fired for Kim Jong Il.
The participants cherished his memory with humblest reverence.
