Insam is a perennial medicinal plant belonging to the acanthopanax family. It has been a symbol of long life in good health since early times.
Insam protects five viscera, has good effect on the cerebral and vascular systems and promotes metabolism by stimulating the endocrine gland. It also invigorates the human body, relieves fatigue and increases the mental and physical abilities.
Especially, the Kaesong Koryo Insam in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is widely known to the world as a material for tonics.
Korean ancestors cultivated insam from long ago and used it as medicine or material for health foods.
Today a lot of insam products are produced in Korea, including insam tea, insam extract, insam liquor and insam preserved in honey. The cosmetics made with insam as an ingredient are also in great demand.
In recent years, researchers of the Pharmacy Research Institute under the Academy of Medical Science have developed insam bioactive infusion fluid, which enjoys popularity as it raises immunity and proves highly effective in the treatment of various diseases.
The infusion fluid is made on the basis of microbial technology to maximize the absorption and pharmacological activity of insam saponin in human body. It is characterized by strong anticancer action, immunopotentiation, haematogenous function and antioxidative action, which were scientifically proved through clinical trial at public health establishments including the Oncological Institute under the Academy of Medical Science.
Active efforts are made to further develop the insam processing technology and the Kaesong Koryo Insam, speciality of the DPRK, is making a positive contribution to improving the people's health.
